THE SACRED IDEA OF TRILOGIES
There is something enduring about three.
Three chapters. Three acts. Beginning, middle, end.
Across art, literature, mythology and ritual, the number three has long carried a sense of completeness. It allows a single idea to become a story; a single object to become part of something larger. At ISIANOLA, we are drawn to this idea of the trilogy.
Our debut trilogy, Iyemi, began with a very personal idea: my mother. Iyemi means “My Mother” in the Kabba language, and the collection is an exploration of the many expressions of womanhood witnessed through one woman.
The three bags are not three versions of the same woman. They are three energies. This is why we return to the trilogy.
It gives us a way to explore different facets of a woman without asking her to choose just one. And perhaps this is what makes an heirloom meaningful. It doesn’t simply belong to one moment in your life. It travels through them.
